Diabetic eye examination
A diabetic eye exam is vital for managing diabetes and protecting your eye health. Diabetics face a higher risk of issues like diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, and glaucoma. Regular check-ups are crucial as these problems may show no symptoms until serious damage occurs.
During a diabetic eye exam, your optometrist will:
Test Your Vision: Check how clear your vision is and see if there have been any changes.
Dilate Your Eyes: Eye drops will widen your pupils, allowing the optometrist to examine your retina and optic nerve for diabetic retinopathy or other issues.
Image the Retina: Advanced tools might be used to take detailed pictures of your retina, helping to spot swelling, bleeding, or other problems.
Measure Eye Pressure: This checks for glaucoma, which can worsen with diabetes.
Itβs recommended that diabetics get an eye exam at least once a year or more often as advised by their doctor. Early detection can greatly lower the risk of vision loss. If you have questions or want to schedule your exam, please contact Gardens Optometry. Your eye health is our priority.
